Troubleshooting:
I am using VMplayer to run a Windows XP guest virtual machine. I have several programs that run only in 640x480 resolution, full screen mode, and when I use them through my virtual machine, there are large black bars on the screen. Is it possible to get VMplayer to scale such programs so that they fill up my whole screen? I added the following to my preferences.ini file, but nothing changes: "pref.autoFitGuestToWindow = "FALSE" pref.autoFitFullScreen = "fitHostToGuest" pref.autoFit = "TRUE" Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, I'm running a Fujitsu Primergy MX130 S2. With: AMD Opteron 3280 8x 2.4GHZ 32GB DDR3 2x HDD SATA 2 RPM 7200 Onboard graphic from AMD 880G chipset (ATI HD4250). I'm running Windows 2008 Server Web Edition I'm trying to setup multiple VM's with Windows XP as guest (about 512mb ram each but I could expand since I have plenty free RAM) to run an application that require 3d accelaration/direct3d. I can run one VM without issues, the problem is when I had two VMs and the 3d application is running. After a while the console screen is all black, and only restarting I could see what is happening. Does the Graphic onboard limits the performance to run multiple vm's? I tried to setup vmworkstation 8 on ubuntu however the drivers of this ATI HD4250 are not compatible with VMworkstation (not even start).

I'm having mouse problems. I'm running Win 7 64bit with 12gig RAM and 2 monitors. Recently I started having a problem with the mouse pointer. Sometimes it would behave as if VMWare tools were not installed and I'd be forced to press ctrl-alt to lose focus. Even after minimizing, I'd still have to press the key combination to move the mouse pointer to my other monitor. Even worse, when I select dual monitor mode, I get 2 mouse pointers - one outside and one inside the VM window. They are often in different locations but the offset of the 2 is dynamic. Both pointer function when I click so I have to be very careful about clicking items when this occurs. So far, the only fix seems to reboot the VM and then avoid using dual monitor mode. That is not acceptable, as I need to use both monitors. I'm looking for the setting "Make it easier to read what's on your screen" mentioned in http://faq.sanbarrow.com/index.php?action=artikel&cat=79&id=68&artlang=en but I'm not sure if that is a Win7 setting or a VMWare setting. VMX-parameters:
guestinfo vs machine.id variables I am trying to pass some configuration specs to a VM. These specs. would later be retrieved (with the help of vmtoolsd cmd)by the init services during booting of the VM. Now i found two choices here: 1. Either i can set the VM specific info using guestinfo. . guestinfo supports multiple key/value pairs. 2. Or i set the info using machine.id . machine.id doesn't support multiple key/value pairs and you have to specify all the paramaters as a string: machine.id = Cons of guestinfo: 1. These variables are not saved in the VM's .vmx file. 2. We can set these variables only when a VM is powered-on. Don't know the exact location where these variables are stored. but still we can retrieve these variables using vmtoolsd --cmd "info-get guestinfo." only till VM is powered on. Once VM is powered off, these variables would get lost. So persistence is a problem. machine.id: 1. This variable is saved in .vmx file and is persisted even during VM's reboot. I really don't know when machine.id variable should be used. Is using this variable a safe option? Is this variable being used internally by the VM? Is this reserved for something or can i go ahead using this variable for setting some VM info.

I would like to boot a VM workstation with an iso image. I have added the following to my .vmx file: ide1:0.present = "true" ide1:0.deviceType = "cdrom-image" ide1:0.filename = [path of iso] ide1:0.startConnected = "TRUE" bios.bootOrder = "ide1:0" The iso image is detected by the VM, but it does not boot with iso. It always boots with OS installed. If i manually go to BIOS settings and change it, it works fine. I want to do this through script, so if any changes to .vmx will work, I would be happy. This is urgent , any help would be much appreciated.

Troubleshooting:
I used a Windows 7 VM, on a Windows 8.1 host, in Workstation 10. During the last week, the VM has developed a graphics issue, whereby the VM will appear to freeze at random (every 10-60 minutes) intervals. It is unusable until I suspend, and restart the VM, which takes 10-15 minutes. Last week Workstation gave me a warning about a graphics issue as I restarted the VM, but it wasn't at all clear. I would like to know if anyone has seen this bug before, and what I can do about it. Thanks.

How to ...:
Hello Guys; Im a new MCITP student. I'm just fresh out of college without that much experience on field. Here i'm trying to set up my practical lab on VMware. I've already installed virtual Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7. Now I'm seeking for assistance on how to configure them to see each other, should i use NAT, Bridge or what type of connection? And, is it necessary to configure IP manually to the VMs? If necessary, how should i do it? How should I make guest VMs and Host talk to each other without connecting them to the switch or hub? Im using a wireless internet, modem or no internet at all sometimes; Cant they talk to each other without internet, switch/hub? Would you please help me out how to config them. Should I assign my Domain Controller as DHCP? Do i need to assign things like DNS server and default gateway on all 3 mashines i.e Host, Virtual 2008 R2 and Virtual W7? If you wont mind, would you please assist me with the example on how I should do this? Regards!!
